Science Communicator.

Writer. Storyteller.

Hi! I’m Prabarna.

I am an award-winning science writer and communicator, currently working as the Chief Communications Officer for Nucleus Genomics, a genetic testing and analysis company based in NYC.

Previously, I was a senior science communications specialist at the National Human Genome Research Institute within the National Institutes of Health. There, I wrote about all the ways in which government research and funding are propelling the field of genomics into inspiring and uncharted avenues!

A neuroscientist by training, I received my Ph.D. in psychology (with a focus on behavioral neuroscience) from Northeastern University. My doctoral thesis looked at how early life stress experiences, such as being separated from a mother, can cause inflammation in the brain, leading to adolescent behavioral impairments.

My passion lies in disseminating and communicating technical and scientific reports of relevance to academic and general audiences. My freelance work has been published by numerous outlets, including Salon, SciShowMassive Science, Lateral Magazine, Windsor of Change, and Oceanbites

In the past, I have also thoroughly enjoyed working as the Deputy Treasurer of the D.C. Science Writer’s Association and Managing Editor of Windsor of Change, a climate reality website.

I live in Brooklyn with my husband and darling pup called Cleo. My spare time involves experimenting with food, singing, and finding whatever time I can to travel around the world. But mostly, I live to banter about science, culture, and cinema.
